Aaliyah was many things to many people. According to friends, collaborators, and associates she was at once beautiful, elegant, approachable, and friendly. “I stay true to myself and my style, and I am always pushing myself to be aware of that and be original,” she told Jet magazine in 2001, shortly before her untimely passing in August of that year.
