If you cheer for an NBA team, that has a rivalry with Miami, ok I get it, if I was a Celtics, Pacers, Spurs, Thunder, even a Bulls fan... yeah I'd hate him too... ok, so if you're not a fan of those teams? Why all the hate though? I'm not saying you gotta cheer for dude, I'm just saying why do so many people just hate the guy, for no legitimate reason? I understand there's a percentage of people, who hate anyone who's successful (If you hate the Patriots, Yankees, Lebron, Tiger, Jimmy Johnson, Alabama football, not just 1 but all of them, you're not a purist, you're a hater) , ok.. so beyond those douche bags.. I don't get it... Here are the argument's I hear...
1. The Generic "He's Not Better Than Jordan" complaint
NO SHIT.... He doesn't claim to be better than Jordan, and no one makes the case Lebron is better except teenagers, so shut up... its like the weakest argument to a question that doesn't even need to be asked.
2. The decision, I'll concede it was contrived and came off real arrogant, but that was 5 years ago. To be fair, if this is the worst thing Lebron ever did, he still raised a few million for charity in the process. Real asshole ya know?
3. "Not 5, Not 6..." It was a local event, the emotions were high, and really all he was saying is we expect to win a title every year, and I don't know why being confident and believing in yourself and your teammates is a bad thing? Its not like he went on SportsCenter and said 'I guarantee we're gonna win 6 in a row' (Rex Ryan would but, LoL different discussion)
4. "Jordan didn't need Wade and Bosh to win", umm... excuse me! If you think Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh are better than Scottie Pippen and Dennis Rodman, you are sadly mistaken. Horace Grant was a star in his prime too.
A lot of Lebron hate seems to come with this fantasy of who Michael Jordan was off the court. In the 90s Michael built an image and a fortune off being the biggest star and role model for kids back then. However, in the 90s, there was no social media, so what we knew about Mike was what we're told and what we were supposed to think. The truth is, Michael was and still is a high stakes gambler, a womanizer, a heavy drinker and smoker, and he's not known for being friendly with fans. Also, Michael, similar to the situation LL Cool J was faced with, being rich and black in the late 80s, when there was far less wealthy black men. They either had to hang around rich white guys who didn't want them around, or hang with the few other rich black men. Michael would end up hanging around with a lot of really dangerous guys from the street. I'm not dissing Mike either, he did him and lived his life the way he wanted to. I'm just making the comparison to Lebron James, a guy who doesn't smoke, rides a bike to home game, is married and dedicated to his kids, spends his time in the gym and with family instead of partying, but Lebron is the one who isn't the good role model? It just doesn't make sense to me. He doesn't talk trash on twitter, he doesn't hog the ball, he plays defense, hustles for rebounds, plays team basketball, doesn't get in trouble of the field, and by all accounts a good person and family man. I don't understand why there's such a trend towards hating a man who didn't do anything wrong.
Again, not saying you should cheer for Lebron James, but do you have a legit reason to hate him?
