Simpsons/Family Guy Crossover (5 Minute Preview!!!)

If you’ve always wondered what would happen if Peter Griffin and Homer Simpson hung out at a bar while Bart and Stewie made prank phone calls, Family Guy is about to satisfy your crossover craving. In the Sept. 28 season premiere, “The Simpsons Guy,” the albino Griffins wind up by accident in Springfield, where they are greeted warmly by the hepatits-y Simpsons. But a fast friendship christened with delicious doughnuts may be forever destroyed by an argument over Pawtucket Patriot Ale and Duff Beer, which leads to an epic chicken fight.

To see the collision of these two animated worlds—plus a cameo by Bob from Bob’s Burgers—check out nearly five minutes of footage from the double-sized episode, which was screened on Saturday during the Family Guy panel at Comic-Con.

The Simpsons-Family Guy mash-up wasn’t the only upcoming episode teased during the panel. Of note, the Christmas installment will feature the return of Jesus to Quahog. “Peter and the guys discover that Jesus is a virgin, so they decide to go about helping him get laid,” hinted executive producer Steve Callaghan. (“We’re all going to hell,” quipped Mike Henry in the voice of Cleveland.)

Liam Neeson will play himself in a different episode: Every time Peter gets drunk he says he can beat up the badass movie star, so the guys call him on his bluff and arrange for him to meet Neeson, who “was very willing to poke fun at himself,” said executive producer Rich Appel. (Other guest-stars this season include Julie Bowen, Jeff Garlin, Allison Janney, Lea Thompson, and Joe Buck.) The new season will also feature Meg getting recruited to be a foot-fetish model, Stewie becoming pregnant with Brian’s baby, and Chris about to fail a history test when “Brian and Stewie take him on kind of a Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure through time,” said Seth Green, a.k.a. voice of Chris.

And, yes, sometime in the future, the Griffins may live long and prosper: Callaghan noted that series creator Seth McFarlane “has talked from time to time of wanting to do a similar treatment” with the Star Trek films as they did with their Star Wars trilogy of parodies, including “Blue Harvest.

As for those waiting for Family Guy not to spoof a movie but to make their own, well, you might have to wait a little — or a lot — longer. When a fan asked about that possibility during the Q&A session, director Peter Shin replied, “We kind of started… pre-work on it a couple years back, but I think it’s on hold right now because Seth is filming Ted 2. But I think maybe in the future it might happen.” Callaghan added that it was hard to find the time to make a movie while they were busy working on the show, but vowed: “Someday we will make that happen.”

NFL Top 10 Veterans In Danger Of Being Cut

 By , Featured Columnist

Every summer, NFL training camps present a personnel paradox: As young and eager rookies begin to climb the depth chart and impress during practice, established veterans get pushed to the edge of the roster bubble. It's all part of the ebb and flow of business in the NFL, but it's never easy to close the door on veterans.

Some of the following players are still performing well enough to help their teams but may be cap casualties; others' skill sets aren't enough to compensate for their off-field issues.

There's no guarantee the following eight players won't make the rosters of their respective teams, but they're certainly ones to keep an eye on as final cuts approach.

NFL Keeping An Eye On High Stakes Fantasy League

images Risking money, whatever the amount, on the outcome of NFL games constitutes gambling.  Risking money, whatever the amount, on the outcome of the performance of specific players in NFL games does not constitute gambling.

Playing fantasy football for money isn’t gambling because Congress has decided that “an outcome that reflects the relative knowledge of the participants, or their skill at physical reaction or physical manipulation [but not chance], and, in the case of a fantasy or simulation sports game, has an outcome that is determined predominantly by accumulated statistical results of sporting events” isn’t gambling.

Obviously, the same kind of skill needed to predict the winners of NFL games applies when projecting the performances of individual players.  In many ways, a fantasy football team resembles a convoluted parlay card, where the non-gambling gambler tries to compile a roster of players who will “win” more yards and points than the team put together by an opposing non-gambling gambler.

The hair-splitting and nonsensical distinction from Congress has made gambling on fantasy football as legal as gambling on stocks, which has spawned an industry that includes some very high-stakes fantasy leagues, some of which undoubtedly include NFL players.  But while it’s only a matter of time before word emerges of the involvement of NFL players in six-figure fantasy leagues, another potential complication could emerge when it comes to the non-gambling gambling of large amounts of money on fantasy football.

Peter King of TheMMQB.com explains that, during his training-camp tour, he has caught wind of “undue pressure some players and coaches feel from big-money fantasy-football players.”  Writes King, “I had one coach tell me there’s so much money in some of these fantasy-football playoff pools that people who used to gamble with bookies illegally are now gambling in high-stakes fantasy-football leagues, which is not illegal.” King adds that the “NFL has its antennae up over this, and it’ll be interesting to see if the pressure escalates to more serious threats on players or coaches.”

Interesting, and incredibly alarming.  Although physical threats against those responsible for poor player performances are possible, it seems more likely that those who would consider breaking the law to express displeasure in losing large amounts of money would be far more inclined to break the law in order to win large amounts of money.

In what would be a bizarre twist on point shaving, coaches and players could in theory be bribed to ensure that certain players will generate significant production, or that certain players will be shut down.  Getting to coaches and assistant coaches who control the offensive game plan would be the most efficient approach.  It also would help to grease defenders who would be inclined to slip on an invisible banana peel, springing a specific player for a touchdown or two.  Or four.

The league, which generates significant profit and attention both directly and indirectly from fantasy football, should be concerned about the potential for corruption.  Even if playing fantasy football for significant amounts of money isn’t illegal, at a certain point the money in the balance will open the door for all sorts of illegal activity.

NBA Draft Lottery Reform Coming Soon

(CBS) The NBA submitted an official proposal to reform the draft lottery at this week’s competition committee meetings in Las Vegas that would discourage tanking by drastically evening out the chances of the worst teams to win the No. 1 pick, Grantland.com’s Zach Lowe reported Wednesday afternoon.

While the proposal itself is still subject to change — even before it’d come to a vote — the proposal being floated now is for the four worst teams to each have around an 11 percent chance of winning the top pick, while the fifth-worst team would have about a 10 percent chance, Lowe reported. The chances for each team would decrease from there, with the lottery team with the best record having around a 2 percent chance to nab the top pick, Lowe wrote.

Currently, the team with the worst record has a 25 percent chance at the top pick, the second-worst team has a 19.9 percent chance and the third-worst team has a 15.6 percent chance.

In another twist, the proposal calls for drawing the first six picks from the Ping-Pong ball lottery, Grantland reported. Currently, only the top three selections are drawn, and the rest of the spots go in order from the worst record to the best. For example, the team with the worst record currently can’t receive a pick lower than fourth overall.

The new system could take effect as early as next season, but there are “many hurdles to overcome before then,” Lowe wrote.

The goal of this system would to prevent tanking, which teams like last season’s 76ers have done in recent years to earn a better draft pick.

Ron Howard To Direct Official Beatles Documentary

Ron Howard, who named the production company he co-founded with Brian Grazer after the John Lennon song “Imagine,” will direct an authorized documentary of the Beatles. It will focus on the band’s years of hectic touring around the world, which began in the Cavern Club in Liverpool, exploded after they performed on the Ed Sullivan Show in 1964, and culminated at Candlestick Park in San Francisco in 1966.

“I am excited and honored to be working with Apple and the White Horse Pictures team on this astounding story of these four young men who stormed the world in 1964,” Howard said in a statement.

Bone Thugs N Harmony Reunion, Album & World Tour

Bone Thugs-N-Harmony has huge plans for the next few years -- TMZ has learned they plan to reunite, record new music, make a FAT stack of cash ... and then ride off to the Crossroads never to be heard from again.

The guys from Bone Thugs tell us all five original members will kick off a world tour, then get back in the studio to record final album. They plan to auction off ONE single copy of the album ... asking price -- at least $1 MILLION!

If this blueprint sounds familiar that's because Wu-Tang Clan is doing the same thing -- currently touring after laying down their album. RZA claims they got a $5 million bid in the auction for their record.

BTNH say their 20-country world tour will start in December -- so you've got some time to save up for the album auction sometime in 2015.

Want America's Worst Burger? Try A McDonald's Near You

Consumer Reports finished tallying the results of a national fast food survey and the results may be a shocker. The golden arches may not be the gold standard for fast food. In fact, it’s just the opposite, according to a Consumer Reports survey. They find that McDonald’s burgers as the worst in the U.S., according to results of a reader poll released Wednesday by the product testing organization.

One of the best? The regional chain In-N-Out Burger, as well as The Habit Burger Grill and Culver’s. The other best include chains like Five Guys Burgers and Fries, Smashburger and Fuddruckers.
The best in show overall? Chick-fil-A, which was said to have the most delicious food, as well as the highest satisfaction score among a cast of restaurants, including KFC, Boston Market, Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen, and others.

For Mexican food, meanwhile, Taco Bell finished at No. 8, with Chipotle and Qdoba finishing at the top. Want a slice of pizza? Maybe skip Domino’s and Papa Johns and head to Papa Murphy’s Take ‘N’ Bake Pizza, which was named number one.

The report is based on responses from 32,405 readers about over 96,200 meals at 65 different hamburger, Asian, pizza, sandwich, chicken, and Mexican fast-food chains according to Consumer Reports. “More and more, food quality ― not just low price ― is emerging as a deciding-factor for many Americans when choosing where to spend their dining dollars,” Tod Marks, senior projects editor for Consumer Reports, said in a statement. “Strong regional players and slightly more upscale fast-casual chains like Chipotle are giving the heavy-hitters in the fast-food business a wake-up call. And our survey clearly shows the big guys need to respond.”

KFC and Sbarro both earned low marks in overall fast food dining satisfaction along with quality.
Wanting bang for your buck? Del Taco, Little Caesars and Papa Murphy’s Take ‘N’ Bake Pizza scored high in the poll. The worst performers, meanwhile, included Burger King, Church’s, KFC, Panda Express and Sbarro.

And while dieting may be on the mind in most conversations about fast food, respondents to the survey said it wasn’t a major concern. In fact, “only 20 percent of respondents said they consider the availability of healthful menu options when choosing a restaurant.” Additionally, only 19% said they ordered “a healthful fare during their most recent restaurant visit.”

Jennifer Lawrence Tops List Of Most Powerful Actresses

Action heroes don’t always have to be men. That’s the lesson actress Jennifer Lawrence is teaching Hollywood, $1 million at a time. As Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games movies, she fights for her life against a tyrannical government without spending much time worrying about which boy she’s going to choose. Her butt-kicking ways have helped the franchise earn $1.5 billion so far with two more movies on the way.

She also showed off her action chops in the recent X-Men: Days of Future Past. As shape-shifting mutant Mystique, Lawrence had plenty of fight scenes and her star power helped make the movie the highest-grossing of the X-Men films with $700 million at the global box office so far.

Oh, and Lawrence can also act. Just 23 years old, Lawrence has been nominated for three Academy Awards. She won the Best Actress award in 2013 for Silver Linings Playbook.

That combination of action hero and award-winning actress makes Jennifer Lawrence the most powerful actress in Hollywood right now. We estimate that she earned $34 million between June 2013 and June 2014. Lawrence ranks 12th on our Celebrity 100 power list, which makes her the highest-ranked actress.

The Celebrity 100 measures earnings and fame to rank the 100 most powerful celebrities in the worlds of movies, TV, books, sports, music and  modeling. Our earnings estimates are based on dozens of conversations with agents, producers, lawyers and other in-the-know folks. We don’t deduct for taxes, agent fees or the other costs of being a celebrity. Our Power Actress list is derived from the Celebrity 100.

Sandra Bullock ranks second on our list of the Most Powerful Actresses and 36th on our overall Celebrity 100. In 2009, Bullock had a huge financial and critical hit with The Blind Side. After winning the Best Actress Oscar for the movie, Bullock took some time out of the limelight.
In 2013, she was back with a vengeance. Her comedy The Heat earned $230 million at the global box office (and showed that an action comedy with two female leads can be a big money maker).

But that was small potatoes compared to Gravity. The risky film, which features Bullock floating alone in space for much of its 93 minutes, was one of the biggest hits of 2013, earning $716 million at the worldwide and seven Oscars. Bullock will next be heard (but not seen) in The Minions, a spin-off of the popular Despicable Me franchise.
Bullock earned an estimated $51 million in the past year.

Our third most-powerful actress is Angelina Jolie. Last year she ranked at the top of the Powerful Actress list but falls in 2014 because of a breather between movies. Our time frame for the Celebrity 100 is June 1, 2013 to June 1, 2014 and Jolie’s latest blockbuster, Maleficent, hit theaters May 30. The film is a hit. So far it has earned $522 million on a $180 million budget. Jolie is poised to collect a nice chunk of the film’s profits but she’ll get credit for those earnings on next year’s list. We estimate that Jolie earned $18 million over the past 12 months.

Scarlett Johansson returns to the Celebrity 100 after a six-year absence and ranks fourth on our Powerful Actress list. Like Lawrence, Johansson has profited by kicking butt. As Black Widow, she’s the only woman superhero currently getting screen time in Disney’s Marvel films. She helped drive the most recent Marvel film, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, to new heights. The sequel earned $710 million at the global box office, almost double what the first Captain America film brought in. We estimate that Johansson earned $17 million in the past year.

Rounding out the top five is Jennifer Aniston. Thanks to Friends, Aniston has enough money to pick and chose her projects. Lately she’s been starring in smaller films that give her a chance to stretch her comedy muscles. Last year’s We’re The Millers grossed $270 million on a $37 million budget. We estimate that Aniston earned $31 million between June 2013 and June 2014.

Browns Disappointed Over Josh Gordon's DWI

The Browns said about all there is to be said about troubled wide receiver Josh Gordon after his DWIarrest this morning.
“We are aware of the matter and are disappointed to learn of the situation,” Browns general Ray Farmer said in a statement, via Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer. “We will comment further at the appropriate time.”
The Browns can’t say they’re surprised, not after realizing he’d miss most if not all of this season after his latest failed drug test.
But this is a separate issue, since he was endangering others.
Gordon was stopped in Raleigh, N.C. around 3 a.m. Saturday, and charged with driving while impaired. He was jailed, but has already bonded out.
The Browns knew he couldn’t be counted on this year, and brought in free agents Andrew HawkinsNate Burleson and Anthony Armstrong. They had the chance to draft a star wideout such as Sammy Watkins, but passed on that opportunity.
“We have to build a football team that can WIN regardless of who is missing,” Farmer said in May. “I think that’s the charge that we have. That’s my job, that’s coach [Mike] Pettine’s job is to prepare this football team to win games regardless of who’s missing.”
If they ever thought they’d get Gordon back, they have to know today’s arrest makes it a little less likely.
Unless of course they were already resigned to that.
